The 17 August 1945 University campus in Jakarta is well known as the MERAH PUTIH campus. The Red and white, as the embodiment of the national flag symbol, is considered to be the “Integration Factor” which is motivated by the spirit of unity and integrity based on the spirit of nationalism and patriotism under Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. Therefore, the existence of diversity as a manifestation of the dynamics in campus life always reverts to the motto of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika; unity in diversity. The name 17 August 1945 Jakarta is used as the name of the University to perpetuate the historic event of the Proclamation of Independence of the Republic of Indonesia. Moreover, it also serves as the commitment of the Higher Education Foundation of 17 August  1945 Jakarta to participate in actualizing one of the ideals of independence, namely the intellectual life of the nation, and to increase national awareness to achieve a just and prosperous society based on Pancasila and the 1945 Jakarta Constitution. The vision of the University of 17 August 1945 Jakarta is to become one of the best private universities in Indonesia in 2020 in the implementation of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education which synergizes with entrepreneurship based on the values ​​of Pancasila. The University of 17 August 1945 Jakarta was established with the aim of producing research oriented problem solving according to the uniqueness of each study program and based on the values ​​of Pancasila.

 

To support the achievement of the University’s goals, the UTA’45 Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM) was founded. The duties of LPPM UTA’45 Jakarta are to carry out, coordinate, monitor the implementation of research and community service, and to participate in the competencies development of human resources. LPPM is also expected to be a part of the members of the Indonesian scientific community and contribute in the form of research and development of science and technology based on the distinctive colors of the University of 17 August 1945 Jakarta.

 

The Directorate General of Higher Education evaluates the research performance of each university. The evaluation of research performance is based on the results of the analysis of research resources, research management, research outcomes, and revenue obtained as a follow-up to the results of higher education research. The results of the performance evaluation will provide an overview of the research capability of each university. Based on the assessment results, the tertiary institutions would be classified into 4 (four) groups which includes the independent, main, intermediate, and fostered groups. Research performance appraisal is carried out every 3 (three) years based on the determined performance indicators. These classifications would influence the higher education institutions to carry out their rights and obligations of in managing research, including the right to receive research funding allocations according to their status. Higher education institutions with good research performance need to be encouraged with adequate funding support, while universities that still need guidance require assistance in improving their research performance.

 

The UTA’45 Jakarta Research Performance Classification itself was included in the Assistance cluster in 2013 to 2015. It was not included in any clusters in the previous years. Furthermore, the many limitations that exist are not considered as obstacles due to the high enthusiasm to immediately be able to reach higher clusters. The enthusiasm and support of the leadership becomes an energy in achieving better performance. The road show strategy in socializing external research schemes of all study programs has become an option and is a top priority for the UTA’45 Jakarta Institute of Research and Community Service program. The program has effectively increased the participation of lecturers in accessing research grants through competitions. The results of the 2016 to 2018 research performance which were announced in August 2019 showed that UTA’45 Jakarta has moved up to the rank of Intermediate Cluster in the order of 303.

 

The advancing raise in the research cluster has had a positive impact on the rank of the University of 17 August 1945 Jakarta as a whole. Previously, in 2016 Jakarta’s UTA’45’s was ranked 1242 in cluster 4 of all universities in Indonesia, then climbed to rank 1000 in 2017, upgraded to rank 601 in 2018, and finally went up to rank 323 cluster 3 in 2019. The achievement of this overall total score is also inseparable from the research performance achievements that was achieved in 2018. Research performance in 2018 was the basis for the assessment of the overall ranking in 2019. University of 17 August 1945 Jakarta, that was previously in cluster 4, was classified in cluster 3 in 2019.
